FORMULA BHARAT

Formula Bharat is an Indian Formula Student-style engineering design competition in which students from colleges and universities all over the country, compete with a life-size formula-style vehicle in areas of engineering design, overall cost, marketability and dynamic performance. The series replicates the global student Formula series hosted in around 11 countries per year.

The purpose of this competition is to encourage students to gain hands-on practical experience, while applying engineering theories studied in the classroom. In addition, students learn the art of management and teamwork, which are essential skills required in the ‘real-world’. These student teams are required to build a new vehicle from scratch year-after-year and seek sponsorship and donations by their own means to fund the project.

The challenge to the student team is to design and fabricate a prototype vehicle that best meets the goals and intents as stated per the Rules Book. Over the course of a five day competition, a jury of experts from the motorsport, automotive and supplier industries judge the design, cost and business planning of all the teams to determine the best team and vehicle; in addition the team’s on-track performance scores will demonstrate how well they hold up under real life conditions.

1.Industry Partnership in making of BAJA vehicles:
SAE Collegiate club has been very active in making All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) for participating in the SAE BAJA event. More than 100 teams from all over the country participate in this event. These vehicles are made with partnerships with automobile industry. Students of this club get mentoring and support not only by the faculty of the institute but also from the designers and managers of the industry. Students have participated in all events organized from 2007 to 2018. The participation with the industry has been very rewarding as the students have won many laurels in these national events. Apart from this the students have also been participating in other events like YAN (Aero modeling activity under SAE), Efficycle and Supra (Formula-1 event).

2.Industry Visits and Expert talk of Industry Personnel:
Industry visits for students are also organized for the students by the department and through the SAE collegiate club. Industry expertise related to program are invited to deliver the expert lectures in the department.

3.Mentoring through student projects:
Industry personnel mentor the student project in the Final year of the study. This mentoring is in association with faculty member from the department. All at times industry personnel are invited as external examiners for evaluating the quality of the project work.
