Mechanical Engineering

The Department of Mechanical Engineering is the major and oldest department of the institute which started functioning with undergraduate programme in 1956.Since then the department has registered continuous growth in all the directions. At present, the department is full of learnt faculty members most of them are having doctoral degree from IITs with significant contribution in research domain. Also the department has 15 laboratories for the U.G. course with latest experimental facilities. The department is continuously updating its curriculum to meet industry requirement. In this process, advanced subjects such as Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Mechatronics, Finite Element Analysis, Robotics, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Computer Aided Design etc. have been introduced as compulsory/elective subjects in the undergraduate scheme. The department is also offering three P.G.courses namely Mechanical Engineering Design, Thermal Engineering and CAD/CAM/CAE. The department is continuously getting funding from various agencies such as DST, AICTE, MPCOST etc. in their various schemes to enhance research and laboratory facilities. Also providing testing and consultancy to various government and private agencies. The students of the department are continuously participating in national level competitions namely BAJA, TIFAN, YAN etc. under SAE collegiate club and bringing laurels to the department. The students are exposed to practical knowledge by Industrial visits and internships in various reputed industries like Hindustan Motors, Tata Motors Pune, ARAI Pune, Thermal power plants, Indira Sagar Hydal Power plant, Shakti Pumps India Limited, Dee Tee, VECV etc. The students are performing well in academics too and getting placement in reputed industries.
