2. Dr. Mamta Agrawal(Senior Assistant Professor,VIT University Bhopal)
Coordinators: Dr. Sarla Chouhan , Dr. Preeti Sengar
The purpose of conducting this workshop was to relate mathematics to engineering subjects. Many engineering students find it difficult to solve engineering problems which need lots of mathematics. With this workshop we want to introduce the students and faculties to many applications of mathematics in different engineering fields and how they can use these applications in their respective fields. Over 200 registrations were done for the workshop from various states of country. E-certificates were given after receiving the feedback form of participants.
The program was started with the welcome note by Dr. Smita Verma, Associate Professor and Head. She welcomed Director of the institute Prof. Rakesh Saxena and the guest speakers Dr. Vandan Tewari, Associate professor Department of Computer Engineering, SGSITS Indore and Dr. Mamta Agrawal, Senior Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics, VIT University Bhopal along with all the participants.
Director of the institute Prof. Rakesh Saxena congratulated and appreciated the department for organizing this workshop. He talked about the importance of Mathematics in various engineering fields and discussed the Reliability lab of an automobile unit in Pithampur near Indore. He wished good luck for future endeavours.
Programme coordinator Dr. Sarla Chouhan gave an introduction about the program. She emphasized the importance of mathematics, particularly the skills for solving mathematical models and interpreting the practical inferences.
Programme coordinator Dr. Preeti Sengar introduced speaker of first Session Dr. Vandan Tiwari.
She explained how mathematics and statistics are important in various branches of mathematics. By examples she related the topics of Fourier series, Laplace Transform, Graph Theory etc. to Mechanical, Civil, Electronics and Computer Engineering. She said that without statistics and theory of probability, one cannot imagine Machine Learning. She took a real life example and explained the decision tree process and also demonstrated the use of probability and statistics there.
Dr. Ranu Sharma, Assistant Professor, introduced the audience with second speaker Dr. Mamta Agrawal. Her topic was “On mathematical techniques and MATLAB to solve Models”
She discussed mathematical modeling, mathematical tools by example of temperature in the human body and position of tumor with the help of a partial differential equation graphically which is very beneficial for research scholars. She explained the finite difference method (for one variable) and finite element method (for more than two variables). And introduced MATLAB and its importance in various engineering fields.
The program ended with the Vote of Thanks proposed by Dr. Rachna Navalakhe, Assistant Professor.
