Applied Mathematics and Computational Sciences

The aim of the department is to impart the sound knowledge of Mathematics and its applications to the students through teaching and research. The department is achieving its goals/objectives with the help of highly qualified faculty.

The department of Applied Mathematics was established in 1956 to teach Engineering Mathematics to all undergraduate courses of engineering. Later, department started the M.Sc. Applied Mathematics course in 1972 with the objective to train students for applying the mathematical concepts in engineering problems.

Further, there has been a widespread use of computers in engineering, design and scientific research. On account of this, the Governing body of the institute has changed the name of the Department to Department of Applied Mathematics and Computational Science and upgraded the M.Sc. course in 2001 as Applied Mathematics with specialization in Computer Science.

The Department of Applied Mathematics also offers Ph.D. programme in various areas of Mathematics. Faculties of the department are actively engaged in research activities and guiding many research scholars for their Ph.D. course.
The department has produced more than 30 PhDs and more than 500 research papers in national and international journals.

The faculty of department has set trends in pursuing quality research in
pure and Applied Mathematics. To support the research activities, department is having separate library and computational lab. Department has also conducted several workshops and seminars to discuss the various research topics of Applied Mathematics.
